Finally Another Blog...and Some Oscar Speak

Yes, it's definitely been a while since I've written you lovelies a blog. This is because I've been writing my second novel and I've still been contemplating my masters degree options. A masters in...creative writing. This was actually something suggested by my Psych adviser and something I think may be a really good idea. I have one novel written and another in the works. Grad school could really help me pull my skills together in to one completed published novel. As you can imagine, I'm not writing this to tell you only about grad school, but I actually have something to say...the OSCARS were last night and I have NO CABLE. I do still have the results and a little bit of insight though. Octavia Spencer in "The Help" First things first, the reason I am writing, Best Supporting Actress. Before I start saying certain people do or don't deserve awards, remember these are my opinions. Also, I really like Octavia Spencer so part of me is really glad s...

Whitney Houston Another Tragic Hollywood Story

When I was a kid, I used to watch a lot of movies with my family. When we watched movies like The Little Mermaid, All Dogs Go to Heaven or 101 Dalmations like a normal family I was bored. I pretty much hated every one of these movies at the time. Other movies we watched were What's Love Got to Do With It, Indecent Proposal and White Men Can't Jump. Sometimes these movies were a little over my head, but I usually preferred them. My favorite movie at 7 or 8 years old was The Bodyguard starring Whitney Houston. I loved this movie and I loved the lead as most people did and still do. This is my first memory of Whitney and possibly my last favorable memory of Whitney Houston. Not because of her talent, but because Bobby Brown helped to ruin everything. When she left him, I and probably every other person on the planet had hopes this was the turning point she needed to become the Whitney we knew and loved from years before. I guess this wasn't the case. As everyone kn...

The Invention of God?

"Doubt is part of all religion. All the religious thinkers were doubters." Isaac Bashevis Singer Religion is a mystery. An invention by man. Is God? When I was a kid, I loved church. My parents wouldn't take me, but a bus would come and pick me up on Sunday mornings the same way the bus would come pick me up for school during the week. In fact, the Sunday school was in a school and very unlike the church I went to later as a teenager. I was saved 3 times before I actually learned what that term meant in high school. Then I was saved a fourth time attending church camp. Yes, I went to church camp as a teenager. Who would have thought? One of my favorite books as a kid was of bible stories for children. I wish I still had this book. I would sit outside and read that book for hours and talk to God as if he were sitting right next to me. I would ask tons of questions such as, "well, if Eve was the first woman, who was her mother?" As you can ...

Mildred Pierce: Joan vs. Kate

Mildred Pierce was a book written in 1941. A book that was also made in to two separate movies. One in 1945 starring Joan Crawford and the other in 2011 starring Kate Winslet. Just recently I have watched both films, mostly because I was tired of hearing how amazing Joan Crawford was and how Kate Winslet's version would never come close. After having watched both, I realize what I knew before, these people are really stupid. People who say this without proper knowledge of having seen Kate Winslet are just saying this because you must assume the older version is always better. They are making the assumption Kate Winslet can never compare to Joan Crawford because, well, because it is Joan Crawford and she won an Oscar for this role. I haven't seen any of the other movies that were performances of that category in 1945, but she does seem to have deserved it.  I love both performances and I loved both film versions. I still like Kate Winslet's version as a whole. ...

Making Money...Making Hobbies

"Making money is a hobby that will complement any other hobbies you have, beautifully." Scott Alexander I've read in several place that you should make a career out of what you are doing in your spare time. If it's your hobby, then you obviously like what you are doing. I am still having trouble deciding what I can do with these hobbies... watching hulu watching netflix playing Zuma checking my facebook account Any ideas? What hobbies can you think of that will become a useful career?

I Was Given All of the Awesome in the Gene Pool...Apologies to My Brother

It snowed last year too:  I made a snowman and my brother knocked it down and I knocked my brother down and then we had tea.  ~Dylan Thomas Me and my brother Christmas 2011 At the moment I am sitting in Starbucks, drinking lots of caffeine and listening to "Memphis" radio. This is a popular show still on Broadway and at one time played in theaters. Right now it is playing free on Memphis so I encourage everyone to watch it. Anyway, for some reason "Eye of the Tiger" cam on this station and for some reason I suddenly had the urge to run around punching people. I blame the song, but let's face it, Caffeine does strange things to me. Maybe the two together are like mixing Mentos and Diet Coke in my stomach. That's an insane amount of awesome. After kicking my brother's ass for about the millionth time in Words with Friends (123 point word with Faux) I did tell him this, "It's sad that I inherited all the awesomeness in the gene pool....

Help a Candian...Former Instant Star

"The person who get the farthest is generally the one who is willing to do and dare. The sure thing boat never gets far from the shore." Dale Carnegie Most people that know me, have no idea what I am talking about when I mention a particular interest. This could be any number of things including Julia Nunes (musician with a ukulele on YouTube), Garfunkel & Oates (more YouTube) and possibly shows such as Being Erika or Degrassi (Canadian). My interests aren't that amazing or that unique, so luckily, there's usually one friend that knows who or what I am talking about. Sometimes this knowledge may have come from some type of force. My poor boyfriend gets the majority of these things thrown at him (Gilmore Girls, Xena Warrior Princess, Instant Star, etc.) Poor guy! Not my boyfriend or me. Just a random photo. Those of you who also know me, know that when I like things, I like things hard. Instant Star, the music of Instant Star and Alexz Johnson happe...
