Present Face

"Oh,  for the good old days when people would stop Christmas shopping when they ran out of money." Anonymous I love Christmas. I love the lights that are placed on the houses, the annoying music that plays on every radio station, the looks on my nieces and nephew's face when they open their presents Christmas morning. I even love putting cup the Christmas tree every year and choosing a special ornament to add to the tree. This year is different though and Christmas just isn't feeling the same. In an attempt to not break my bank I did start shopping a few months early. This was a good thing because it really did work. The bad thing is, I keep buying more and more presents even though I certainly have bought enough. Selfishly, this is one good reason for Christmas to be over.  Buying gifts has become a stressful event in everyone's lives and truthfully, money has nothing to do with it. Shopping for Christmas makes everyone crazy in general. A lot

Do You Believe in Santa Clause?

"I stopped believing in Santa Claus when I was six. Mother took me to see him in a department store and he asked for my autograph."  Shirley Temple This shopping mall Santa is dead now, but he should get his ass kicked. Never destroy the dreams of a child no matter who they are. "Believe in love. Believe in magic. Hell, believe in Santa Clause. Believe in others. Believe in yourself. Believe in your dreams. If you don't, who will?"   Jon Bon Jovi I was told that Santa didn't exist while walking through a grocery story as a child. I was going on about Santa and suddenly I was told by a parent and one of their friends that Santa did not exist. I was heartbroken and this other person was laughing because I was too old to believe in such a thing. I might have been in 3rd grade.  Santa does exist, this is truth. Saint Nicholas was born a wealthy man and he used all of this earnings to give to the poor. This included dropping money down

Strangers Car Ride

"Unless someone like you cares a whole awful lot, nothing is going to get better.  It's not." Dr. Seuss Tonight I picked up a woman and her child on Southside Blvd. I had never met her, but I saw a kid so I felt safe enough to pick them up. It also reminded me of the times when I was little and I had to walk down the street. I figured it  would be a couple of block, but once she got in the car and I asked where she was going it was the Beaches. She didn't expect me to take her that far, but according to her they were going because all the kid asked for was to see his dad for Christmas. They were on their way. Seriously? So I offered to take them all the way. This is what I found out...she's legally blind. She can see shapes, but not make out details. She could still somehow see numbers to dial on her cell phone. Her kid was in the school of the deaf and blind because he has glaucoma and could go blind. He was wearing glasses at the time. When we got down

Friendships

"Be courteous to all, but intimate with few, and let those few be well tried before you give them your confidence." George Washington.  At this point in time I think it's safe to say every person on the planet knows about the show and book series of Wicked. At the very least I will say, every person in the modern world has heard about this show and at least one small African child is bouncing around the desert singing the song "Popular." Yes, I did mean African citizen and not black. Maybe this kid is a white South African, I don't know. Either way this show is popular. In this series there are two main relationships, possibly three and these are mostly prominent in the book rather than show.    Elphaba (wicked witch of the west) and Galinda (good witch) become best-friends. Elphaba falls in love with Fiyero.  Glinda is dating Fiyero so this is the possible third relationship to care about. I debated with a person once about which we thought

America's Royalty: Celebrities

"Every man I knew went to bed with Gilda...and woke up with me." Rita Hayworth Celebrity status has become America's royalty. Everyone wants to be rich and famous and everyone wants to be loved by everyone else. The real purpose of celebrity seems to be to bring people together who have nothing else in common. Tabloids are the high school lunch room of the adult world. Made for gossip, envy and the popular kids sitting at the best tables. As a child I had many favorite celebrities...Delta Burke because of Designing Women, Jason Priestly because of 90210, and everything from Full House because as a child, nothing was better than that show and that family. I had a few major obsessions as a child though. The first was Jonathon Taylor Thomas and I was madly in love with him for years and years. I had poster covering every inch of my walls and this included my ceiling because I ran out of space. I was also crazy about my idol Reba McEntire. She sang all my favorite son

Are you a MAC or PC?

"You're not supposed to ask about religion or politics. Now you're also not supposed to talk about Mac or PC." Gregory Lee, a nobody to everyone, but his mother.  I can still remember the first time I ever touched a mac computer. It was the early 90s, I was in the 3rd grade and my school was taking a tour of one of the local magnet programs. In an attempt to entertain us for a few moments, the school allowed us to sit at the computers and play a common game for the PC called math busters. This and Carmen San Diego were my favorites. At the time I was young though and it didn't seem like a big deal. At the age of 10, no one really cares what type of computer they have or the fact that they are sent home with a bag of apple product stickers.  The  next time I touched a Mac was in 2004, when I was getting ready for a deployment to Iraq. One of the Officers needed me to complete a project for him, so I sat down at the Mac laptop and completed something tha

Worse Than Groundhog Day (The movie was good.)

" Well, what if there is no tomorrow? There wasn't one  today." Phil from Groundhog Day Does anyone remember the movie Groundhog Day? Bill Murray wakes up every day and is forced to relive the same day over and over and over again. This seems horrible because it seems no matter what happens, nothing he does ever brings the next day upon him. This seems like the worst possible fate a person can imagine, just living the day over and over with nothing changing.  I don't mean to alarm you, but there is something much worse than this fate and you've probably been experiencing most of your adult life. Every day is exactly the same, but guess what, it's not the same day. This means time keeps passing and you keep living the same day over and over getting older and older. I feel pain for you, I really do. This is because I live the same day over and over. I wake up and walk for twenty minutes. I walk my dog. I go in to an office and push some papers

Job or Career?

"Don't aim for success if you want it; just do what you love and believe in, and it will come naturally." David Frost When I was a teenager in High school I had a bet going with a friend that I was going to be famous before he was. I was going to be an actress and he was most likely going to be an artist. At this point, I'm not actually sure what his plans were other than being famous. In that small town I guarantee not one person felt I would reach fame, but this guy, everyone thought he was going places. Apparently, we both thought the other was going to be something because as I stated, we bet on it. We were going to be famous, but the real problem was making it first. I'm not sure why this was actually important to us. Possibly, because we wanted to be the center of attention and obviously this was the way to do it. Another reason could be the ways in which we all tend to compare ourselves with other people. I must have a better job and make more money th

Kid Problems

"A man is not old until regrets take the place of dreams." John Barrymore My entire childhood consisted of me going through what was possibly a mid life crisis. As a Kindergardener I always thought I was too old because I was not a toddler. As a middle schooler I figured it was best to be in Elementary school where all the kids were safe and happy...you can see how this is going to continue. Somehow in the early years of college there was a change though. I went from being mature and sensitive to being...well, whatever the hell I kind of wanted to be. This brings me to the follow up of the previous post...as an adult it's ok to occasionally have a few kid problems.  At 27 years age I still think that I am a bit too old and I've possibly wasted my younger years. I can't play hooky from work, I can't have my parents give me money for stuff I don't really need and I have to feed myself, which really sucks. This way of thinking is completely wrong thou

Adult Problems

Does anyone remember the movie Man of the House with Jonathon Taylor Thomas? I promise you that was the sexiest rain dance any human being has ever done. In matters of truth and justice, there is no difference between large and small problems, for issues concerning the treatment of people are all the same. - Albert Einstein Remember when you were a kid and the only problems you had included one, many or all of the following problems: Mom or dad won't buy me that awesome toy I want I want a freaking car, but babysitting doesn't pay enough I like him/her, but she doesn't like me back I finally have a girlfriend/boyfriend, but they want all my candy Why isn't there enough freaking candy? Now that you are an adult you see that there are real problems in the world such as: Mom or dad won't buy me that awesome toy I want I want a freaking car, but babysitting (job choice here) doesn't pay enough I like him/her, but she doesn't like me back I

The Lost Generation

It is not easy to find happiness in ourselves, and it is not possible to find it elsewhere. - Agnes Repplier I was born in the year 1984. I'm not actually sure if this makes me an 80's, 90s or even 2000 er kid. For starters, the only thing I really remember about the 80s is Adventures in Babysitting and when it ended and went straight to 1990. This was a new decade and that was insanely awesome. Why was it insanely awesome? I have no idea. Why was going in to 2000 awesome? I have no idea. Y2K was ridiculous and I knew this at 15. For those who were still worried, they should have watched the trends as other countries hit the new year first. This is what I do remember about my childhood... Headbands, leg warmers, a book of Bible stories I read a million times. I always prayed and it was always as if I was in a conversation with God rather than obediently following orders. I asked questions and though I never received answers I always felt like he was listening. I don't
